History
The Southington Lacrosse Association (SLA) renamed their annual lacrosse jamboree the Ken Vilar Memorial Jamboree. The name change is to honor Ken Vilar, one of the co-founders of the SLA in 1989, as well as the organizing force to start the varsity lacrosse program at Southington High School back in 1992. Ken unexpectedly passed away in May of 2012.
Ken and the SLA held their initial jamboree back in the Spring of 1989 when the association first got underway. That jamboree had only 5 teams, one of them coming all the way from Canada to compete. Over the next few years, the jamboree continued to grow and peaked at close to 100 teams and two locations during his tenure. Ken’s love of the game and passion for teaching the sport kept him involved with SLA over the years, and he even got to coach his grandson before he passed.
